An open break-up letter to winter

imagesCAQVNQA4

Dear winter,

First of all, I love you. You know I do. You came into my life a few months ago, all sultry and cool-like. I wasn’t expecting it; the beautiful way your snow illuminated my life, blanketing my world [and car and sidewalks and streets and brand new shoes]  in a sea of white. I can’t really explain it, but you just had a way about you that sent shivers down my spine [because it was freezing. Literally, freezing]. I fell for you, and boy did I fall hard [Yep. That was black ice. Just all of the black ice.]

Winter, this is hard for me to say and I really hope that we can still be friends, because the truth is, we did have a lot of fun. Remember the time we spent the whole day in that cozy bookstore, just sipping chugging coffee and browsing the stacks? Or what about those nights where all we did was snuggle under a big blanket and Netflix it up, getting our waffle on with Leslie and plotting world domination with President Underwood. Ahhh, good times, good times. Some of the best, actually.

The thing is winter, and I’m just going to come right out and say it, I think we need to break up. I would say that it’s not you, it’s me. But it’s definitely you. And while I love you, you know I do, this thing just really isn’t working out. If I’m being honest, there were some things in our relationship that I took major issue with. For example, the whole ‘getting up an extra twenty minutes early just to heat up and de-ice my car’ thing? Kind of a turnoff. And the way you made it impossible for me to wear any sort of cute clothing outside the realm of a bulky, Marshmallow Man coat? Soooo annoying. Or how about how you have the ability to make my drive home a raging headache? Traffic is bad enough without the added pressures of you throwing some ice and snow into the mix. You just can’t help but meddle, can you? But that’s neither here nor there. I don’t blame you, winter. That’s just who you are.

But that’s not who I am. At least not anymore.

And there’s one other thing; I’ve kind of met someone else. Spring took me by surprise but let me tell you, once I got a taste of it’s warmth, it’s green grass, birds chirping, longer days and sunny skies personality, I was hooked. Completely head over heels [because I can actually wear heels. NO MORE BOOTS!!!] Spring made me feel things that you never could [like my toes and fingers, for example] and showed me things that I thought didn’t exist anymore [HOLY CRAP! Are those my legs?! My bare legs?! Looking good, ladies–although HOLY CRAP, you definitely need a good shave STAT!] I look at spring and I can’t help but think of a brighter future, a future filled with cute dresses, baseball, just all of the Easter candy, cute shoes, the wind in my hair, romantic kisses in the rain (or at least the slight possibility of maybe perhaps on the slight chance that an opportunity to kiss in the rain presents itself) and cute skirts.

It’s still very early on in our relationship winter, but I believe that spring and I, well, we kind of have a good thing going. And I know this may sound crazy, but I think I love spring. I know, I know. Bonkers. Gosh, look at me, I’m blushing. And sweating.

But seriously, does anyone have any deodorant I could borrow?

Winter, when it comes to these sorts of things, when you know it’s right, you just know. And I know this is right.

I do hope you understand, winter.

And you what, winter? I’ve actually got a friend who I could set you up with, but only if you’re interested of course! Her name is Elsa and let’s just say that you two would be perfect together!

Stay cool, winter!

xoxo

Love/Hate

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a love/hate relationship with many a thing.

For example: Public toilets.

I LOVE that they are relatively good for the environment, help to conserve water, and are nice when you are on the tad forgetful lazy side when it comes to remembering to flush.

I HATE that 99.99999% of the time, these friendly flushers do one of two things: they either surprise your bum with a lovely poo water shower, doing its thang before you are, um, done doing your thang, or, they decide to take a nap mid-poo and leave you waiving/pushing/hunting for a button to clear the bowl of all presents.

LOVE/HATE.

Some other things that I have a LOVE/HATE relationship as of late include:

Spring. I LOVE that it has finally decided to show up, gracing us with it’s warmer weather and sunshine. I HATE  that I now have to start shaving my legs again. Darn you shorts and summer dresses!

Speaking of hair…long hair. I LOVE that my hair is now under-the-boob level, giving my a monkey barrel full of styling ideas and options (plus I can do that super cheesy but oh so dramatic Tyra Banks model-ish hair flip thing). I HATE that my luscious locks take me nearly an hour to comb through post-shower due to the massive amounts of snarls that are so kind in presenting themselves.

Spider-free bathrooms: I LOVE that the spider the size of a small baby who was living in my bathroom is no longer there. I HATE  that the spider the size of a small baby who used to be living in my bathroom is now in some other location in my house. Which I have yet to discover. EEK!

Mega-Stuffed Vanilla Oreo’s. I LOVE  that Oreo’s finally got it right with the creme-to-cookie ratio. I HATE  that I just ate the very last one and am now left cookieless. Oh the horror!megastuff-oreo-06

Hanson. I LOVE Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’ by my favorite all-time hottie, hunk-a-licious boyband (and sharer of last name) Hanson!!! I HATE that, well, I don’t really think I can think of anything to HATE about Hanson. They are amazing!

What are some of your current LOVE/HATE’s?

Recipe For a Very Splendid Spring

Hey guys!

As you all know, the official first day of spring (aka the Spring Equinox) was this past Wednesday. Spring has probably got to be my second favorite season (after summer). Coming from a Wisconsin gal, the beckoning months of March, April and May lead to massive snow meltage…and often times massive snow falls–I remember many a time when the flurries were a flyin’ on my birthday (April 18). I also remember a couple of years when there were tornado outbreaks on that very same day. Craziness! It’s safe to say that, especially when a cheesehead, you’ve got to expect the unexpected when it comes to mother nature during this transitional time; running the full gamut is not an anomaly. You gotta love [to hate]the unpredictability of WI weather for surely.

Along with the warmer temps that spring time brings comes so much more–the flowers and trees begin to bloom, permeating a delicious sweet scent and adding color once again to our nature’s coloring book. Baby animals are being born, baseball season is just a run of the bases away, the shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops are brought out of storage and everyone just seems to be in a much better mood…and how can you not be when the sun is shining and you’re rocking your new sundress that you got on sale at Target (seriously, they have some wicked-good sales going on now–check them out!)?

I thought it would be fun to share with you my recipe for my imperfectly perfect (because there is no such thing as perfect, sillies) splendid spring. So…without further ado…

Here is the recipe for MY SPLENDID SPRING:

Ingredients:

2 Cups of Brewers baseball games

3/4 cup Sunshine

3 tablespoons of walks with Mr. Thunder

A dash of Sweet Peep Sushi

http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2010/03/peeps-recipes-how-to-make-peepshi-sushi-rice-krispies-treats-easter.html

2 Handfuls of rocking new jams like this…

and this…

2 teaspoons of do-your-nails-funky

1-stick of 30 SPF (especially if you are like me and tend to sport a lovely shade of lobster-red just by thinking of the sun)

A splash of adventure (like this)

A sprinkle of late-night star-gazing

Pumbaa: Hey, Timon, ever wonder what those sparkly dots are up there?
Timon: Pumbaa, I don't wonder; I know.
Pumbaa: Oh. What are they?
Timon: They're fireflies. Fireflies that, uh... got stuck up on that big bluish-black thing.
Pumbaa: Oh, gee. I always thought they were balls of gas burning billions of miles away.
Timon: Pumbaa, with you, everything's gas.

One heaping scoop of best-friend time

And an unlimited amount of laughter

Instructions: (Sporting your dorkiest apron of course), mix all ingredients together, dig in, and ENJOY!

Question of the day? What are you most excited about this spring? What is your recipe?
