So there’s that…

When I’m alone in the car, I practice talking in different accents and use them to go through the drive-thru.

So there’s that…

Happy Friday, guys!

Or should I say, “Arghhh maties! Happy Friday to yers!” 😉

Happy Halloween!!!!!

Hey guys!!!

Happy Halloween!

I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I’m headed over to my office’s chili-cook-off (which I am SO going to win, btw! I entered my famous white-bean chicken chili and it is off the chang, yo!). In addition to the chili-cook-off, we also had an office-wide costume contest where I am happy to report I took home second place (despite the fact that hardly anyone knew who/what I was).

Halloween? We dress like this every day at the office. I'm the one in black next to Batman (girl) and the social butterfly (how awesome is that idea by the way?!)

If you can correctly guess my costume, you will get a high-five and fist bump and I will personally send you a cupcake. Okay, maybe not an actual cupcake but I will send you a picture of me eating said cupcake.

Hope you have a fantabulous, fun, safe and candy-filled Halloween 🙂

EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t want to spill the beans quite yet, but I have some very, VERY, VERRRRRRRYYYYY exciting news to share with you guys!!!!

Like, VERRRYYYYYYYY exciting!!!!!!!!!

Can you guess what it is?

Come in.

Just take a guess.

Nope. I didn’t finally create a way to prevent that nasty milk flakage that appears on the top of milk jugs (although how awesome would that be, right?!)

And no, I am not going to be the next contestant on the Price is Right (although how awesomely awesome would THAT be, right?!)

I’ll give you a hint.

Okay.

Maybe I won’t.

But stayed tuned folks because in the next day or two, you will have your mind blown.

BLOWN!

VERRYYYYYY EXCITING!!!!!!!!!

Homerun of a weekend

Hey guys! Happy Friday-eve!

So this happened today….

snow

Mr. Tumnus! Is that you? #WakingUpInNarnia

Gross.

It’s April 3rd for goodness sakes. I thought the expression was “April showers (not SNOW showers!) bring May flowers. Oy.

But it is Colorado after all and from what I am learning very quickly, the weather here suffers from a bad case of “I-can’t-make-up-my-mindness”.

Such is life, I guess.

In other news, I thought I would share with you some pictures from my weekend up in Wisconsin. As you all know, I am kind of a Brewers fan fanatic. Every year, I make it a point to go up for opening day, no matter where I am in the country. I’ve traveled far and wide to see my Brew Crew play ball and will continue to do so for as long as, well, ever.

This trip was even more special because not only did the Brewers reign victorious over the Braves opening day (*side note: I realized the evening of the game that I had, mistakenly of course, put my skivvies on inside out. Guess who has a new superstition tradition?!), but I was able to spend some much needed and long-awaited time with good friends (and even got to meet some new ones!).

You definitely cannot beat that!

On the docket:

A freakishly freaky after-hours Milwaukee Airport (Langoliers anyone? Eek!)

airport

Creepy! Just creepy!

Getting to see this lovely lady, mary

A wicked bonfire, dare I say, the PERFECT bonfire which included wieners and s’mores. But mixed together. Because that would be nasty. Or would it…?

OPENING DAY!!!!

park

Friends, baseball, and little Hank. What more could you ask for, really?

And rounding out a pretty fantastical weekend…a trip to the zoo. We were there visiting my family 😉zoo2

zoo

And the award for the tallest (and cutest) photobomber goes to…

As is a rule for all weekends and vacations, they fly by way too quick. I had such an incredible time, sharing laughs and memories with the best friends a gal could ask for, and am already looking forward to next year!

But until then, you know I will be cheering on the Crew from afar (and live and in person when they come to open a can of whoop ass on the Rockies in June–speaking of which, if any of my Denver friends are interested in going to the game, let me know! I would LOVE to Brewer it up with ya!!).

Hopefully by then, all this fluffy white stuff will be long-gone.

A girl can dream…

Have a great rest of your day, friends!

I’m Backkkkkk

Hey guys!

It’s been a while.

Okay. A long while.

HOW HAVE YOU ALL BEEN?!?!

I want to hear everything.

But before you give me a full rundown, I think I should probably tell you what I have been up to (and why I have been MIA for the past month or so).

I mean, not that anything major happened over on my end. Well, except for maybe:

1. Moving across the country–I decided to take a leap of faith and move out to the Mile-High city of Denver, CO for some amazing adventures, a lot of fun, and a new job. While it was sad to leave my friends and family, my home, and especially my pup (for the time being), I am so glad that I took the bull by the horns (So to speak. *Note: there were no actual bulls involved in the making of this post) and jumped at this opportunity. Life is too short to be inhibited by your fears, by your apprehensions, by your unplanned plans. 2

As Mark Twain once said, “20 years from now you will be disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the one’s you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

2. Officially applied to graduation-Come May 5th, I will officially be a proud holder of a masters degree. Hot diggety dog. These past two years have really flown by and while I am so proud of myself for kicking some serious grad school butt, I am mostly just glad to be almost be done. With homework, with papers, with studying and thesis writing. Just done. Until I go back to get my Ph.D that is 😉

3. Getting fresh ink–Book worm. Harry Potter nerd. To infinity and beyond. I know, I know. SO EPICALLY AWESOME, right?!?! I swear this is my last one. I think. For now. #MakingLibrariansCoolSince19871

4. Discovering the amazingness that are these little diddies–Uh Ohreo. No good can come from these. OH SNAP, crackle, pop. 3

5. Signing up for my first half-marathon–Can’t tell you how stoked I am to act like Forest and run. More specifically for 13. 1 miles. I’ve got to be honest though, this whole higher-altitude thing really does do a number on my pacing. The past month I’ve been slowly easing my way into the swing of things. Hopefully come the end of July, I’ll be in tip-top-running shape.

So that’s basically been nut in a me shell.

I mean, me in a nut shell.

Speaking of shells, I have a very serious question that has plagued me for the past two nights…

Does anybody really know where cashews come from? I mean, do they have a shell like their counterparts the peanut and almond? Do they grow on vines or underground? Are they even part of the legume family or just distant cousins?

Yes. These are the thoughts that go through my mind. Nuts, right? Pun SO intended.

I hope you are all doing fantabulously!

And I promise, I will not go this long again without blogging it up.

Check ya later, alligators 😉

My Summer in Milwaukee (in pictures)

My last night in Wisconsin is most definitely bittersweet. I had SUCH an amazing time; I learned so much working at the library, met some incredible people, got to reconnect with old friends and even landed a pretty darn amazing job out of the whole thing–the sprinkles on top of the cherry on top of the whipped cream on top of the hot fudge sundae that has been the last few months.

The summer here may be over, but these pictures, and memories, with last forever!

The MOTHER of all days

She’s my confidant, my mentor, my best friend, my mom.

Words can’t express how much she means to me!

She emulates who I want to be, how I want to carry myself, and how I want to live my life. She taught me to be kind, to laugh, how to be a friend, and to go after my dreams.

If I end up being half the woman she is, I will consider myself the luckiest girl in the world.

Today and everyday, I love you mom!

I am glad that I got to spend this day with the world’s universe’s greatest mom EVER! God blessed us with the perfect day for a hike. So a hike is what we did. My mom, daddio, the pup (and my little sister in spirit who wishes she could’ve been there too) hit up Kennesaw Mountain earlier today and had an absolute blast.

Thunder of course had a serious case of sensory overload. Apparently all of Kennesaw thought it was the perfect day for a hike as well because they, and their dogs, were getting their hikes on as well. Needless to say the pup went a little cray-cray with all of the smelling and licking and sniffing of his fellow pup’s bums.

By the end of our roughly four mile walk, the poor guy was pooped out (quite literally. Note to self: two poop bags are never enough!)

I couldn’t have imagined a better way to celebrate this amazing woman than spending it with the people (and animal) I love most, rehashing old memories and making new ones.

To all of the wonderful moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day!

The Terrific Two’s

happy-2nd-birthday

Oh my pretzels, guys!

This, That, and the Other Thing turns the big 2 today!

It seems like just yesterday that I started this little passion project of mine. What at first started out as an online diary of sorts, chronicling all of my crazy, funny, and amazing life moments, has really turned into much more than that. Over the past two years, I have grown.

As a person.

As a writer.

As a friend, and a sister, and a student, and a dreamer.

I have gone through so much these last two years, the highest of highs, the lowest of lows, and all of the in-betweens. Looking back, I can’t believe how much has changed, how much I have changed. And you guys have been there with me, every step of the way!

To all of my friends, my family, my readers and fans.

Thank you for sticking with me, for inspiring me, for making me smile and laugh and strive to be better.

If the last two years are any indication, the next two years are sure to bring many surprises and I for one cannot wait to share them with you!

Now.

You can’t have a birthday without cupcakes, right?!

Right.

To celebrate This, That, and the Other Thang’s 2nd birthday (or the fact that it’s officially a week before the Brewer’s opening day, or that it’s Sunday, or that you successfully fulled off matching socks today, or, well, do you really have to have a reason to make cupcakes? I didn’t think so.), I decided to share with you one of my fav’s 🙂cupcake-taste-testing-and-painting-party-15

Ahh, who can resist a cute mini cupcake with colorful confetti sprinkles?? A simple vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting is my absolute, 100%, no-holds-bar favorite kind of cupcake.

They’re cute and tiny and colorful and remind me of the Easter parties we used to have in elementary school. And…the good thing about making them pint-sized is that you don’t have to feel guilty about eating 2 5.

I used Sweetapolita’s Fluffy Vanilla Cake recipe for these cupcakes, and I’m going to just send you over there to get it. The cupcakes were gorgeous, light, airy, fluffy, and impossibly moist. Everything that this girl wants in a vanilla cupcake. Even when made mini — and that my friends is hard to do! A perfect vanilla cupcake.

I topped them with my new obsession: Cool Whip frosting, guys! 601518_532464950137632_287113732_n

I am telling you, this stuff is lethal. I’m talking grab-a-spoon-and-go-to-town lethal!

It’s so light and fluffy and tastes ahhhmazing!

Once your cupcakes are cool (wait at least a half-hour to an hour to let your cuppycakes completely cool down), lather on some of that delicious frosting, making sure to lick the spoon once you’re done, and then sprinkle your, um, sprinkles on top 🙂

Pour yourself a big ‘ol glass of milk, plate up a couple of these diddies and ENJOY!fluffy-vanilla-funfetti-cupcake

Have a great rest of your night everybody! And thank you again! You all are the bomb.com 🙂

The Brewers Got SOLE

Hey guys!

So.

There are officially only 13 more days until the Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day!!!!!

13!!!!!!

Holy hot dogs topped with sauerkraut and mustard, Batman!

I am too excited for words!!!!

Because I am all things Brewer, and all things crafty, and all things nerdy….

I decided to get a little artsy-fartsy and make up some super cool Brewer shoes for the big day (and, well, for any little ‘ol occasion. I wore them to work today and everyone LOVED them! They may have not know what the heck was on them, but they LOVED them nonetheless).

I really have to say guys, I think I may have found my true calling: shoe painter.526784_10100155688562522_1142093469_n

Is that even a thing?

It was so easy, so cheap and SO much fun! I would definitely recommend trying this sometime.

And the best part is, you can design it to accommodate a whole barrel of ideas: your favorite quotes, books, food or song lyrics.

Anything!

I already have, like, 20 more ideas for twenty more pairs that I want to get started on.

For a brief tutorial, check out my YouTube video I created.

Please feel free to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. Martha Stewart I am not.

Have fun guys and be sure to send my pictures of your designs!

Life’s Little Awesomes: Bailing on a Toboggan

Hello hello hello!

How are all of my lovely peeps doing this fine Friday-eve? Can you believe it’s the last day of February already?! Holy guacamole! So far this year has been flying by so gosh darn fast, but it has also been pretty darn awesome. In fact, there are a lot of things about not only this year, but about life in general that are pretty awesome.

The other day I was having a conversation with one of my (awesome) friends and we touched on the fact that sometimes, the simplest of things in life are what really make our every days and nights so great. In fact, these things can be so simple sometimes that we tend to take them for granted, breeze right by them without taking the time to smell smile the roses, and soak those moments up to the fullest. I have to say that I am guilty of this very thing (although I am getting better about that).

We all live busy lives; school work, kids, spouses, boyfriends/girlfriends, pets, traffic, grocery shopping and cleaning. All of these things are awesome in their own right, but sometimes these BIG awesome  things take up so much time and space that we forget about those poor LITTLE awesome things.

Have no fear…WENDI is here!

(In case you guys didn’t know, my alter ego is Wonder Wendi, the cape-wearing, hot pink tights-sporting super-heroine, fighting frowns and spreading awesomeness everywhere I go! Superman and I are tight like, well, spandex. Just go with me here…).

As part of my super-heroine duties, I only feel it necessary to share some of life’s little awesomes, reminding you to slow down and savor every stinkin’ moment when you can. Or, a thought to pull out of your pocket on those oh so horrible, not good, rotten, terrible blech days (which we all have from time to time…or any Monday. This reminds me, who is with me in making starting a petition to make Monday’s optional?! Am I right, people?!).

Once a week I will present you with a different “life awesome”. To make this even more fun, please feel free to contact me with your own suggestions: What are your little awesome things? I’ll take your ideas and share them with the rest of the class to create a BIG little awesome list 🙂

This week’s awesome: Bailing on a toboggan.

Growing up in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, sledding in the winter was one of my favorite things to do. I remember getting all of my friends together, our toboggans, tubes and in some cases, our cafeteria trays (sorry UW-Stout Food Service Employees)  in tow and hitting up the nearest and steepest snow-covered hill. SO much fun! When I was six (okay, mayyyybe was just last year), I rode in the front seat of a toboggan that ended up losing control and steering sideways into a barbed wire fence. My forehead shredded (think mozzarella on a cheese grater) and hot tears racing down my cheeks, I learned at that moment that things can unravel real quick on those steep, snow covered hills.bail-bail-bail

Yes, a rocky start and some poor weight distribution push the toboggan hard into the slick and slippery snow which sprays sharp ice chunks into your eyes and ears (and down your shirt—BRR!). Things get swervy when your buddy jumps off the back which causes you to then lose complete control and gain speed just in time to notice the creek bed coming up quicker than quick sand in front of you. Oh sugar.

You have no choice at this point.

Even though it means hitting the ground hard, twisting your ankle and possibly rolling down half of the hill (losing your pants in the process–don’t ask), you gotta do it. You just gotta do it.bail-on-a-toboggan1

Bail for the moment. Bail for the memories.

And bail for your life.

Awesome!

Have a great night friends! And if you get a chance, put on your snowpants, grab our sled and do some major bailing!

Question of the day: Have you ever gone tobogganing? Are you a bailer or a hang-on-for-dear-lifer? What are some your “little awesomes”?
